Neck Liposuction

As we age, persistent fat deposits and a loss of skin elasticity can obscure the youthful contour of the chin and jaw regions. Neck liposuction is a surgical solution for men and women who wish to improve their appearance by restoring the angular qualities of chin and jaw.

Through neck liposuction, Dr. Shell can reduce visible signs of aging by reducing the appearance of excess fat and skin in the chin and jaw regions.

WHO IS THE RIGHT CANDIDATE FOR NECK LIPOSUCTION?

Neck liposuction can significantly reduce visible signs of aging and give the appearance of weight loss. You may be a potential candidate if:

  • You possess unwanted fat deposits in your neck region
  • You have a strong underlying bone structure
  • You do not have excessively sagging neck skin

Ideal candidates for neck lift surgery will also possess excellent physical and emotional health. During your examination with Dr. Shell, he will be able to determine if neck liposuction is right for you based on factors such as your current health status, skin elasticity and aesthetic goals.

FAQ

There are numerous factors to consider before committing to any cosmetic surgery. Below is a list of frequently asked questions associated with neck liposuction in our Northern Mississippi plastic surgery office:

  • What happens during neck liposuction?

Through a tiny incision made behind your ears, Dr. Shell will insert a cannula (a small suctioning tube) to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannula will be pushed and pulled through the fat layer, breaking up fat cells and suctioning them out. The entire procedure is often completed in less than an hour and only requires a local anesthetic.

  • What happens after neck liposuction?

During the recovery process, you may be required to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and promote proper healing. The recovery process is relatively short and most patients are able to return to work within a week of surgery. The results of your surgery will gradually become apparent as swelling begins to subside.

  • Are the results permanent?

The results of neck liposuction are permanent. However, patients who experience significant weight gain following surgery may have altered results. In order to increase the probability of long-lasting results, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine.

  • Are there any risks associated with neck liposuction?

All surgeries carry some level of uncertainty and risk. Though they are rare, complications can occur with neck liposuction. Risks increase if a greater number of areas are treated. Prior to surgery, Dr. Shell will discuss all potential risks with you. Risks associated with neck liposuction may include delays in healing, blood clots, fluid loss and nerve damage.
