Lip Augmentation

The lips are one of the most mobile and expressive regions of the face, but as we age they can start to thin, losing both volume and shape. Lip augmentation using Juvederm® is a popular, minimally invasive solution for people seeking younger, more defined lips.

In his Northern Mississippi plastic surgery office, Dr. Dan Shell routinely performs lip augmentation with Juvederm, an FDA-approved dermal filler for lip enhancement. Through lip enhancement with Juvederm, you can achieve fuller lips and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles with minimal downtime.

Who Is the Right Candidate for Lip Augmentation?

Men and women who have a strong motivation to alter the size or shape of their lips may be good candidates for lip augmentation. Lip augmentation may be right for you if:

  • You desire to achieve fuller, more shapely lips
  • You have lost volume in your lips due to aging
  • Your lips have the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles

Additionally, it is important for lip augmentation candidates to possess good overall physical and emotional health. During your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Shell, he will be able to determine if lip augmentation with Juvederm is the best choice for your cosmetic goals.

Before and After Lip Augmentation

FAQ

There are numerous factors to consider before committing to any cosmetic procedure. Below is a list of frequently asked questions associated with Juvederm lip augmentation:

What happens during lip augmentation?

Lip augmentation is an outpatient procedure that is generally completed in thirty minutes or less. A local anesthetic may be applied to your lips prior to your procedure to minimize pain. Dr. Shell will then use a small-needled syringe to inject Juvederm into prediscussed injection sites on your lips.

What happens after lip augmentation?

There is generally very little downtime associated with Juvederm lip augmentation, and you should be capable of resuming work and other social activities right away. You may experience some minor swelling and bruising at the injection sites, which should completely subside within a few days. Full results of your procedure should be apparent within one week.

Are the results of lip augmentation permanent?

The results of Juvederm lip augmentation may last from a year to eighteen months but will not be permanent. As time passes, Juvederm will be safely metabolized by your body, and your lips will appear as they did prior to your lip augmentation procedure. In order to prolong results, you will need to schedule routine maintenance appointments with Dr. Shell.

Are there any risks associated with lip augmentation?

As will any cosmetic procedure, there are risks associated with lip augmentation using Juvederm; however, side effects are rare and generally mild. Dr. Shell or his staff will discuss these risks with you prior to your procedure. Some potential side effects may include slight bruising, redness, tenderness or pain at the injection site. These side effects tend to disappear within days or hours after the procedure.

Why should I choose Dr. Shell for lip augmentation?

During your consultation, Dr. Shell will listen carefully to your concerns, ensuring that all treatments are customized to meet your goals. He uses the latest technology in a comfortable and confidential setting. Dr. Shell is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and The American Board of Surgery.
